SCF Receives WLCF Grant
With deep appreciation, Siuslaw Childcare Friends (SCF) acknowledges receipt of a $5,000 grant from Western Lane Community Foundation (WLCF). Board Member Sally Wanz accepted the grant certificate at the Rotary Club of Florence’s annual awards luncheon on May 26th. Sally expressed deep gratitude to WLCF for their help with our Childcare Workforce Development Plan.

The funds will be used for the first awards under SCF’s Childcare Workforce Development Plan. The Plan has two components.
First, the Childcare Workforce Expansion Awards provide stipends to early childhood education (“ECE”) workers whose hires expand the provider’s offered slots, and who either return to the ECE workforce after an absence or are first-time ECE workforce participants.
Second, the Step Advancement Awards provide stipends to childcare workers who have significantly advanced their professional competence, as reflected in the Oregon Registry Online (“ORO”) Step Program.
Holly Mar-Conte, Child Care Sector Strategist at Onward Eugene/Eugene Area Chamber of Commerce, has called SCF’s workforce development program “a wise investment in the community that will pay dividends – more qualified early educators, more access to childcare, and more support for working families who need care.”
More details on the Plan can be found in our April 3, 2016, News Release or by contacting any board member.
Any ECE provider in the Siuslaw Region may nominate ECE staff for these awards.
Western Lane Community Foundation’s mission is to “improve life in western Lane County through effective philanthropy.” WLCF’s “resources come from individuals, businesses, and other organizations. WLCF selects qualified recipients for funding, based on need, in the form of grants, scholarships, and donations for specific projects. The area served by the Foundation is Florence, Mapleton, Dunes City, and Deadwood, Oregon.”
