Shape the Future of Childcare in Florence

Siuslaw Childcare Friends (SCF) is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to supporting and sustaining childcare in the Siuslaw Region through workforce development and subsidizing the cost of childcare for lower-income families. SCF stewards and assures the sustainability of two community classrooms in the brand-new Elm Park Early Learning Center (the Center).

SCF seeks a dynamic, entrepreneurial early childhood professional to launch and lead the childcare program in the Center’s two community classrooms. This program will serve the Florence community by offering high-quality, sustainable care for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers—significantly increasing local childcare options, especially for our youngest children.

The Center includes two additional classrooms operated by Head Start of Lane County, creating a collaborative early learning environment.

Highlights:

  • Six-figure development fee paid by the Center’s developer as compensation for the effort and risk of starting up, stabilizing, and directing the Community program. The developer also provides a  $75,000 soft loan at zero interest for working capital. This is in addition to the compensation you pay yourself for service in the classroom as a lead teacher.
  • All construction funding is secured from BuildUp Oregon and CCIF. The build starts in November 2025 and opens in September 2026.
  • Prime location: across from PeaceHealth Peace Harbor Medical Center, walking distance to employers, co-located with a new 32-unit affordable housing community (possible housing opportunity for childcare workers!).
  • Your backyard: Pacific Ocean, Siuslaw National Forest, Cape Perpetua, Oregon Dunes.
  • Low rent—only 50% of property operating costs.
  • You will own the childcare business and set rates, salaries, and profit goals as the owner, within the parameters of our sustainability proforma and our lease.

Your Role:

You must be a full-time lead teacher in the Program for two years. Then you can transition to half-time in the classroom and half-time as the community program director.

Requirements:

Must meet Step 9 and other DELC qualifications for a center director; AA/BA in Early Childhood Education is preferred. Business experience is preferred.

Community Support:

SCF will help recruit and train staff during construction and provide tuition assistance for needy families after opening. Quality Care Connections, the childcare resource agency serving Lane County, will provide free consultation and support as needed.
